From the President
Greetings to all, I hope everyone had a joyous holiday season and I hope the New Year treats all of us well.
I wanted to follow up on a few items.
EPHIA was successful in convincing CMHA to form new sidewalks along Grand Av. North of Warsaw. Pete Witte was quite instrumental in getting this accomplished. Many thanks to Pete for his help. This goes to show how important it is to get residents from Price Hill on various boards and committees of these government organizations.
CPS has announced that it is going to close Whittier. Your board has taken on a position of fighting to maintain Whittier and the proposed new school building. I spoke at the CPS School Board meeting 8 Jan 07 in regards to this issue. Considering CPS dealings with us in the past (little to none) it was suggested to city officials that the Whittier site be considered for possible expansion of Police D-3 headquarters, but our first priority is to keep the school.
No progress has been made at this time for the proposed buy, improve, sell program at this time but these efforts will continue.
There are only 4 Incline District' house banners remaining for sale at the mere price of $10. We have received a very gracious anonymous donation for street banners in the Incline District' and I hope to have close to 50 of them installed before summer.
The City has taken Washington Mutual Bank to court in regards to property negligence at 1008 Purcell. The problem property committee will closely monitor this as this property was proposed for a parking lot in the 1988 Urban Design Plan and that parking lot is still needed today.
A large thanks to all candidates in the 2006 EPHIA election. We had a large slate of good people and had a good turn out for our annual election dinner. Thank you to Barbara Niehoff for organizing the dinner. Congratulations to the election winners. I am confident this board will lead our council in the proper direction.
A large thanks to Brenda Swisshelm who has taken on the duties of the newsletter.
Lastly, Captain Raabe has asked me to be a board member of the Western Corridor Safe City Project. I do not know how effective I will be but will do my best to represent the residents of East Price Hill.
The board has recommended objection to the liquor license request at 3411 Glenway do to lack of communication from the applicant. We also are going to send letters of appreciation to several City of Cincinnati employees who perform admirably for the people of East Price Hill. If anyone is interested in attending the neighborhood summit at Xavier University on 20 Jan 07 please call me for details. Please check out our website (www.ephia.org) periodically for updated info. A special thank you to Patti Hogan for her efforts on the website. Please get involved and volunteer for a committee or for a safety walk held bi-weekly.
