From the President

Greetings to all,
After reading some other community councils newsletters, I thought it might be appropriate to give a report of our organization's activities. Many may not know the many fires that we have our hands in, and many may not know the efforts that few are working so hard on. Please consider donating a few hours of time to one of our many endeavors.

First off, a few have asked bout the police departments surveillance camera initiative that has been reported to be mounted along Glenway Av. Based upon it's cover it appears that the East Price Hill business districts have been overlooked. Patti Hogan, our recording secretary and Price Hill Will's Safety Cat chairperson, has been working tirelessly on this effort with the police department on this campaign for well over a year. She is confident that the East Price Hill business Districts will in fact be covered by these surveillance cameras down to Grand Av. Patti will inform me if things become bleak and we have to raise a stink, but for now patience is a virtue.

Both our criminal court watch and housing court watch programs have been successful this past year. We continue to get tougher sentences applied than these thugs and their lawyers ever bargained for. Patti Hogan and Ken Rothman head this effort and they would be grateful for some help to ease their workload. Thanks to all who volunteer their time and efforts to this campaign. EPHIA was successful convincing Price Hill Will, our community development corporation, to take on a receivership case against the owner of 535 Wilsonia Av. I am proud to report that after 7 years of property abandonment Price Hill Will has taken on possession of this property with the help of the Legal Aid Society. It will be fantastic to see this structure demolished or rehabbed for owner occupancy in the near future. Thanks to Matt Strauss of PHW and Stephanie Moes of Legal Aid for their efforts.

Mary Croft has taken on the position of chairperson of our housing and development committee after many dedicated years of service by John Wall. Mary has jumped head first into this endeavor and is confident that many good projects and initiatives will move our neighborhood forward. Thank you John for your time and dedication.

Three relatively new items EPHIA has had communications with proper authorities on is:

Two items up and coming for East Price Hill is the sale of Incline District' house banners at this month's meeting for the mere price of $10. Wifi services should be up and running in short order along the Warsaw Av. business district. I hope all will consider running for either the office of director or trustee, which are open for election this November. If these positions do not fit your needs, EPHIA is still in need of a newsletter editor and a beautification/ yard of the month chairperson. Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated by your neighbors.

See you October 16th.
