From the President
Hello everyone,
I promise this is my last report. I have 2 bits of sad information that I feel I must report.
First, EPHIA lost an active member on 19 Sep 07. Mrs. Margaret McAnally. Many may not have known Margaret but she was very supportive of EPHIA and of me. I saw her at several neighborhood functions and she cared very much not only for her home at the Pam Villa but for the whole neighborhood. She had consistent dealings with Mr. Monzel's office and with Cincinnati's D-3 Police in attempting to keep vandals out of the 8th and Elberon building. Margaret ran for a director's position in EPHIA in 2006. I personally visited Mrs. McAnally (as I always referred to her by) a few days prior to her death while she sat at her perch at the Pam Villa. EPHIA has lost a good friend.
Next, it is sad to report that our neighborhood has lost a silent warrior. Police Captain Andrew Raabe has been reassigned within the Police Department and will no longer be the D-3 commander. I am confident that everyone has dealt with Capt. Raabe at one time or another during his 7 year tenure and I am confident that he dealt with everyone courteously and professionally. We will miss Capt. Raabe but look forward to working with the new D-3 commander, Capt. Kim Frey.
There will be a short membership meeting called at 7:30 pm during the elections. Since there are no contested positions this will not hold up the election process. I have several items that need to be handled during this month but all should be relatively quick.
1st) There will be a vote of the membership to determine if we wish to proceed with the original Cincinnati Parks plan to add lights to the pathway at Wilson Commons Park or to spend the dedicated funds on upgrading the Park entrance as was discussed at the October meeting. I have met with Steve Schuckman since and am more in tuned to what all will be completed with this funding and will be prepared to answer any questions.
2nd) Through a vote of the membership, I need to be officially designated in our membership minutes as the person in the organization who can make real estate dealings for the organization. This is in regard to the City of Cincinnati irrevocable street privilege for the flagpoles at our 2 gateways. This is probably handled through our Articles of Corporation but I have not yet been added as the official designee with the State of Ohio.
3rd) Lastly, the membership needs to affirm the problem property committee recommendation that 3320 Glenway should indeed be declared a nuisance by the City of Cincinnati. This building may already be declared by our meeting date and thus nullify the call for a vote.
Please come 19 Nov 07 and enjoy an election evening dinner with neighbors and friends. Be sure to say a word of thanks to all of the officers, fund managers, committee chairpersons and newsletter editor (Brenda Swisshelm) of EPHIA as they have made our neighborhood a better place through their time and dedication. Please become more involved through active participation in a committee or as an officer or just dedicate some time to one of the many events that take place.
Patti Hogan, Barbara Niehoff and Bob Greenly planted some new plants at the Tot Lot recently. Bradford Auto Body has graciously accepted the detail to water the new plants. Look for some new artwork on some of the Warsaw Av buildings provided from the Price Hill Will Arts Cat. Thanks to Kara Watson for her creative activity.
Lastly, I wish to thank Ginger for her understanding of my position with EPHIA. I have dedicated a tremendous amount of time towards trying to make this neighborhood a great place for our family. It has been hard for her to arrange her schedule so I could attend daytime events. It has been hard on her to put kids to bed by herself during the nights I am at meetings. It has been hard on her to go to bed alone as I sit at the computer until wee hours of the morning preparing EPHIA business. Without her support, EPHIA would not have accomplished half of what has been accomplished. I feel she deserves more than the word thanks, she deserves all my love and support and a hug. Thanks to my kids for being who they are, three of the best.
This neighborhood is the best thanks to all of you.
